Bigelow Tea Co. continues to be vigilant in enhancing the environmental friendliness of its Fairfield headquarters in Fairfield Connecticut. In 2005 Bigelow Tea Co. spend about 1 million dollars on a 900 solar panel installation on its headquarters. Now, Bigelow Tea is planning upgrade their HVAC system to use geothermal energy. Green technology HVAC generally recycle heat generated from other equipment and include a low flow, low temperature, high efficiency design that uses smaller pipes and pumps, thus fewer natural resources and less energy for water circulation. It follows that the colder water makes colder air, which is distributed throughout zones in smaller ducts, using less energy for fan circulation and less material for the ductwork. Supplying less airflow at colder temperatures permits quieter operation and reduces relative humidity in the building, improving indoor air quality. The approach reduces environmental impact inside and out. It requires less space, which leaves more for the architect to design and the owner to rent or sell.

It is clear that Bigelow Tea is committed to ensuring and environmentally friendly atmosphere at their headquarters and is in a position to receive large tax rebates with the installation of this type of technology coupled with increased energy efficiency
