Alders are members of the birch family (Betulaceae). Of the ten species of Alnus native to the United States, red alder is the only one that reaches commercial size and abundance. It is also the most common and important of the hardwoods in the Pacific Northwest. Adler wood today serves a cost effective alternative to maple or cherry that gives the same structural integretity.  Alder can be stained to mimic other woods giving it the showroom quality while effective cutting project costs. In CPM's recent prtoject at the Patterson Club in Fairfield Connecticut Red Adler was used in the constrcution of the men's lockers and the result was fantastic (as seen in the picture above) and cut project costs by a substantial percentage.
