Los Angeles Street Car Project

Los Angeles Streetcar, Inc. (LASI), was founded by long-time Downtown Los Angeles stakeholders in January 2009 to lead the fundraising and development efforts of the streetcar project, including oversight of all required planning, environmental, engineering, and development processes. Back in March L.A. City Council approved $8.4 million for the Downtown Los Angeles Streetcar Project. These funds will be used to pay for preliminary engineering, continued community outreach, the formation of a community facilities district, and any environmental work that is not currently funded.

After much public input, LASI has developed conceptual streetcar alignments for further public review and study. The intent of the conceptual alignment study was to capture critical nodes within Downtown L.A. (such as Broadway, L.A. LIVE, South Park, etc.) that are integral to Downtown L.A.’s long-term growth and development. According to the LASI timeline ground will not be broken on this project until mid 2012. The proposed alignment for the street car can be found here.
