Glass Helps Apartments LEED Efficiency

The Cyan Apartment Building in Portland, Ore., is designed for efficiency—most of the 364 units measure only 540 sf. Energy efficiency is also a priority, so in an effort to reduce heat gain, local design firm Thomas Hacker Architects opted for Guardian’s SunGuard SuperNeutral SN 68 glass. The high-performance glazing has the appearance of clear uncoated glass and allows for light transmittance while limiting solar heat gain. It is also available with a tinted outboard for colored glass effects. The glazing, along with the building’s additional green features, help contribute to the building’s energy savings, which are averaging 20% better than code.
